Mistweaver Monks - Episode 14

Welcome to the Final Final Boss episode…

…before Blizzcon.  Did I scare you?  This week Bay and Ana interview our Monk friends again, only this time they’ve decided to weave in a little Mists.  Our hosts are joined by two Mistweaver Monks that fell in love with the class in the Beta, Redfern of <Immersion> and Jaydaa of <Vigil>.

We take a look into our guests past gaming lives; what their first MMO was and what classes they first started playing.  We find out that neither of them started off as healers, but transitioned to them over time.  Redfern describes what it is he likes about healing, and how an encounter can be completely different depending on who else is in the group.  Jaydaa agrees and sums it up as “Healer vs. Raid”.

Playing a brand new class means having to deal with constant developer tweaks.  Our guests talk about how little changes here and there can make for big impacts on how they play.  And while the class as a whole is decent, there are things that need to be reworked to make for more solid game play.

We move on to a discussion about skills, mechanics, resources, cooldowns, and the Jade Statue.  A mistweaver has a kind of revolving door of resources.  Mana to build Chi, Chi to build Tea, and Tea to build Mana.  Unlike our Windwalker friends, Mistweavers don’t really have any talents or glyphs that change how they play.  The level 90 and 70 talents can change based on encounter, and there aren’t really any mandatory glyphs.

Meat and potatoes time! Our guests talk about everything healing.  They discuss AoE and single target healing and how it’s both good and problematic with smart heals, as well as how powerful it is in 10m compared to 25m.  What about a Mistweaver Monk makes it good to have one in the raid?  Aside from their constant AoE throughput, they also are capable of standing in melee and can ignore ranged mechanics.  Cheaters!

Of course, no Mistweaver discussion is quite complete without a look into Fistweaving.

We end the show with what one thing each guest would like to see changed about the class and no, Redfern, we can’t delete Priests.

Unfortunately we did not have the time to get into the community Q&A for the show proper, but stay tuned for the aftershow and you will see those questions answered.

The World First Victors Episode 10

Final Boss has an incredible show today for all you World First raiding junkies.  The GM and Raid Leader of <Method>, Sco and Rogerbrown, join Bay and Ana today to provide a fascinating insight to their World (of Warcraft).

On one hand we have the EU and US progression, and on the other we have the Asian progression. Sco and Roger talk a little bit about how this impacts their own progression, especially in regards to releasing kill videos early as Stars did for their Garrosh kill.  Is it time to open up communication to the Asian guilds to avoid future controversy?

Next on the plate is an open sandbox question where our guests explore the ups and downs of Mists of Pandaria raiding.  During which they talk about gating in T14, the ease or difficulty of raid bosses, how much of a difference having item level upgrades made, whether or not alts were used, what kind of roadblocks and bugs they encountered, and what their favorite fights were.  Not to give anything away, but Sco definitely fired some shots about the competition with his favored fight.

Finally, what does it take to run Method and just what goes into making this guild the top guild in the world?  Sco and Roger discuss officers, raid leaders, the amazing and dedicated players, and the few players that go above and beyond just playing well.  It’s easy to see why Method is such a strong team of players capable of sweeping an entire expansion.

Also, don’t miss Sco tell Roger’s back-story of when he originally joined Method and got kicked.  Yes, Roger, their now-raid leader, almost wasn’t part of Method at all.

Episode 8 - Now Live on Youtube

Hello Mobs and Minions! This week on Final Boss, Bay is joined by our lovely new co-host Anafielle of <Something Wicked> to talk about 10 man heroic raiding.  They are joined by Minimemage of <Dsylxeic>, the Beautifully Bearded Mage (sorry, Bay!) with the infectious smile, and Hunger from <Topped Off>, a Shadow Priest and officer.   Hunger is also joined by Hunger’s Gas Heater, which attempts to steal chat’s attention at every turn.

The show begins with a quick background of our guests; where they ended up for progression last tier and how they’re doing now.  <Dsylxeic> encountered a raid-stopping bug with Galakras gating which prevented any further progression.  The bug being, if you killed Sha of Pride and allowed a soft reset, you were unable to move past the gating to Galakras.  Bummer, Blizzard!  <Topped Off> had the same bug, but were fortunate enough to have a GM fix the issue so they could continue to kill internet dragons heroicly.

And while Hunger’s brother decided to schedule a wedding during progression (the nerve!), we have yet to find a guest that has topped Landsoul’s 35lb Lego Millennium Falcon as an out-of-game side project.  Step it up, guys!

Moving forward, Bay and Ana delve into the “When’s” and “Why’s” of 10 man raiding.  When did the first 10 man appear and when did 10 man raiding finally become an acceptable alternative to 25 man raiding?  Has the separation of 10 and 25 man achievements helped a lot?  And also, when and why did our guests switch to 10 mans?

Getting into the “Meat and Potatoes” of the show, Mini and Hunger are asked to discuss the logistics of running a 10 man.  Both concede it’s easier to run logistically and socially.  It’s easier to keep track of less people (who knew?) and they’re able to pick and choose who they want so that they mesh well with the group.  They move on to loot and how it’s handled… To avoid all the gory details, Minimemage puts it very succinctly – “Loot Sucks!”  He couldn’t be more right.

Finally, the show discusses PTR Preparation, Class balance – Bring a Hunter! – and any tips and tricks for Mages and Shadow Priests.
