Episode 39 - Evening Coffee with Final Boss

Mobs and Minions take a break from the raiding life this week to listen to Matthew Rhode, the suave voice and high enthusiasm behind the Ducksauce persona of Twitch TV fame.

Most beginning streamers probably don't move across the country for a chatroom confidante or switch career tracks with the help of a napkin, but Matthew Rhode did what he had to in order to follow his passions into acting. He might be that stereotype hailing from his mom's basement while playing WoW, but does your mama know whether there's trouble at the docks? Mama Duck knows. A furrier Arthas than many of us know briefly shows up to literally embrace the positivity that is Matt.

While Matthew's still working on a rite of passage credit, his favorite acting gig so far has been the indie film Kings of Yorktown, where he learned many tricks like camera angles or how to shoot a police arrest scene on the cheap. While passing advice on to aspiring actors, Matthew lets us in on all the details out of his control that can help or harm his ability to get a gig in the first place.

Ana gets hers from book characters and Bay brings some of his own old fanfiction characters into WoW, but Matthew went the mundane style of character naming via nearby objects -- in this case, a packet of duck sauce. We learn that the first step to Black Market Auctioneers Anonymous is to admit what epic pizazz you get out of RNG sometimes. Besides, Matthew's got until step nine or so to give all that borrowed gold for gambling on BMAH containers.

This might not be the sauciest heroic mode hunter on the planet -- you can go back to Episode #18 if you want some of that -- but admit it: Mobs and Minions know we're jealous of his Love Rocket.

Episode 38 - Welcome to the Shield Slam!

There was almost a devastating void of guests for this week, but The Firelord cobbled together some swords and boards this week to represent the classic tank of World of Warcraft.

Eddy of <Echoes> plays all the tanks, but he loves protection warrior the most. Gliff of <The Horsemen> is just a natural tank personality; even on a healing alt, he's thinking about mob placement. Both guests are unwavering sentinels about the protection warrior's defensive abilities, comparing warriors as "warlocks of the tanking class," stating that they can do both single target and multitarget well.

We skipped to stats first this week, talking from progression all the way down to overpowered farm content. Eddy explains what each stat does, from the mastery of meat-shielding to the paper-plate tank made of critting DPS. However, both guests feel the avoidance build of dodge and parry gives the best raging experience for a protection warrior.

Mobs and Minions will hear about the binary one-shot or not Mass Spell Reflect and how to scumbag as a warrior on Garrosh. Both Eddy and Gliff enlighten us about how self-healing like Second Wind and Impending Victory make a bigger difference in smaller groups likes 10-mans or Challenge Modes than in 25-mans. We end out in agreement that Dragon Roar and Bloodbath are clear talent winners, though Bloodbath plus Bladestorm is a fun DPS option.

Episode 37 - The Unholy Knight of Frost

All the Mobs and Minions out there might be trying to avoid the latest real-life colds and diseases as spring warms up across the Northern Hemisphere, but for us on Final Boss, an unholy winter is here to stay -- y'know, for at least another couple hours of the DPS death knight episode.

There's Arv of <Vodka>, who's an expert at pressing the right buttons to parse high. He's shifting from bleeding edge progression raiding with world second Blood Legion into a more casual raiding with some remnants of the Vodka-Exodus merge. Mendenbarr, on the other hand, is moving up in progression but down in hours from <Divide> to <Midwinter>. Mendenbarr is known in the DK community #Acherus for bringing the nonzombie brains to the class.

While the new talent system for DKs is reputedly horrible, Cataclysm brought changes to the rune system that made playing the class easier and smoother. Our hosts and guests note that DKs are the class where players rather than devs came up with specs within the specs to play. Unfortunately, death knights are pretty GCD-locked at the moment and are hoping that Warlords of Draenor will bring interesting changes.

Arv and Mendenbarr talk more talents and skills than stats, but that's what matters in the end. SentryTotem has auditors like Mendenbarr who will look through your raid parses for free to help you improve, and it's your Killing Machine proc uptimes they'll look at first, not how much haste you have. In The Unholy Knight of Frost, we'll find out not only about the playstyle difference between 2-handed Frost and dual-wield Frost, but also exactly what is Unholy's Festerblight spec and what Warlords may do to kill it. By the end of Episode #37, you'll know why that one priest in your raid has a gripping hate on your undead life as you scumbag your way to damage highs.
